It All Comes ’Round Again
It All Comes ’Round Again is a smorgasbord of music curated in the mind of the host, Paul Kovit. The show is based on Duke Ellington’s premise that "There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind.” So you can hear good music according to Paul.
The show is genre fluid. You’ll hear American folk and folk-rock, English folk and folk-rock, Celtic folk, jazz of all sorts, world music, classical music, rock, prog rock, popular music from the 1920’s and 1930’s, 60’s pop rock and psychedelia, 80’s rock, and some music that can’t be
categorized. Each show might have a different theme, and often you’ll hear a variety of genres within the same set. Some music will be familiar to you, but much of it will be things that were not popular with large audiences. So if you don’t hear something you like, wait five minutes and you’ll hear something you do.Paul has connections to many musicians, and from time to time he’ll be interviewing some of them and playing music from their careers. They might even play live on the air (well, the Internet). It’s a grand experiment and one we hope you enjoy.
Paul Kovit grew up in New York City and attended Vassar College. He was the first person to graduate from Vassar with a BFA in Film. Paul worked for most of his career in the video/television industry. He’s retired now and lives in the Hudson Valley. Starting in 1971 Paul was the first DJ on the Vassar radio station, WVKR, to spend all four years hosting music shows. Paul has been fascinated by music for as long as he can remember. He got his first guitar a
week after the Beatles were on The Ed Sullivan Sullivan show in February of 1964. His early interests were the British Invasion, Bob Dylan, and Phil Ochs. Paul eventually discovered British folk and folk-rock and became a devotee of English groups like Pentangle, Fairport Convention, and Steeleye Span, as well as Irish groups like Planxty and the Bothy Band. He played guitar and mandolin in a couple of New York–based groups, always combining British
and Irish folk with original compositions. In 1982 Paul started attending the Fairport Convention’s Cropredy festival in Oxfordshire, England, making friends with musicians in the scene. In 1987 he produced and directed the Fairport Convention documentary It All Comes ’Round Again, which covered the first twenty years of the band’s history. It was a dream come true. From the mid-1990’s to the early 2000’s Paul was part of the Celtic/world/singer-songwriter group Whirligig. Whirligig toured the United States and Canada, eventually playing some of the big folk festivals, including Newport and Winnipeg. The group made a couple of CD’s that Paul is still very proud of and even played the Fairport Convention festival in 1991 … another dream
come true. Paul is thrilled to be back on the radio for the first time in 51 years. It does indeed all come ’round again!
