A Strange Stage
A monthly reaction to the inertia of the classic rock radio mindset. We only play tracks released within the last 20 years (or any vinyl reissues within the last 10 years - our only loophole). We try to dig deep, with most tracks coming from smaller label releases. And as a final bonus, we’ll regularly include bands that are touring in the Hudson Valley. (If you’re listening, you may also be buying vinyl and/or seeing live music regularly, both great ways to support artists.)
Your hosts are Morgan Coy (co-owner of Tubby’s, but not the one who books the music!), and Andrew Stewart (doctor by day and music lover by night).

Episode 6 - On our June show we remember the workmanlike genius of Steve Albini and wonder (once again) why movie soundtracks are so stuck on classic rock. We also feature some tasty cuts from 2024 including dream-pop out of Montreal, country-psych out of Mexico City, and ecstatic avant-rock out of Belgium by way of Burkina Faso. It's another twisty ride! Hold on tight, tune in and check us out.
Tubby's Strange Stage Episode 1 - Today's episode features Cory Plump (music booker at Tubby's in Kingston, NY) playing only bands who will be performing across the river in the month of JUNE. Modern garage rock, droney ambient, and even a little folk. We close out the show with a live recording of HORSE LORDS full show that happened at Tubby's in march.
Episode 5 - On our May show we talk about holding on, letting go, and allowing the universe to come to you. We also go farther afield than ever with Danish R&B, West African rock, and both dub and dancehall reggae. Our coverage is worldwide! Tune in and check us out.
Episode 4 - On our April show we re-examine the (unproven) link between too much classic rock and early dementia, and run the gamut from Wim Wenders to public indecency. We also keep things chill from the get-go with a mellow vibe that's perfect for an early spring day. Tune in and check us out!
Episode 3 - On our March show we talk about beginnings and endings, the return of spring, and the problematic lack of public restrooms in downtown Los Angeles. We also offer a smorgasbord of musical styles, including pop-punk, spoken-word psychedelia and yes, country. Tune in and check us out!
Episode 2 - On our February show we talk about everything from gym rock to dream pop - and overcompensate for a short month with WAY too many songs. It's an embarrassment of riches from Morgan and Andrew! Tune in and check us out.
Episode 1 - On our inaugural episode we try to figure it out, trading songs that cover a little bit of everything: rock, country, blues, soul and even a little B-class salsa. Tune in and check us out!
