About Radio Free Rhinecliff
Our tiny studio is located in the heart of the historic hamlet of Rhinecliff, NY at the back of The Epicurean grocery store. We currently stream new shows every Friday from 2pm to 9:00pm and produce podcasts from our back room studio. As we grow our content, we will be expanding our streaming schedule and podcast offerings.
The 'Radio Free' prefix has been attached to many stations around the world, starting in the early 1950s as a US-funded effort to counter the party-controlled media behind the Iron Curtain.
Today we live in an era of media consolidation dominated by a few commercial interests that control much of what’s available on commercial radio, social media, etc. So, the “radio free” prefix now signals a station whose content provides an independent alternative to this media juggernaut. A ‘freeform’ station allows its hosts to create their own programming, while abiding by a code of conduct that encourages civil discourse and provides fact-based information.
Community radio dates back even further than the radio free prefix, starting in the 1940s when it helped to organize mine workers in Bolivia.
Radio Free Rhinecliff has a straightforward mission, and we want to have fun doing it! Our goal is to strengthen the ties that bind our community, both locally and globally, and to foster collaboration, by providing a platform for informative, entertaining, and inspiring content from the remarkable talent that thrives in our hamlet, combined with additional talent from parts unknown.
As a freeform streaming radio/pod platform, we have shows that are opinion based and news based. News shows strive for objectivity in the best traditions of journalism. The views expressed by individual hosts and guests are their own views and do not represent the views of Radio Free Rhinecliff.
